Alba re-launches its Code of Conduct and emphasises on its values

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China, held a re-launch of its Code of Conduct as well as its confidential reporting system, ‘Integrity Line’ on Wednesday 22 March 2023 at the Oasis Hall.

The event was presided by Alba’s Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali and attended by the Executive Management as well as Managers. The revisions to the Code were made primarily to restructure the content and integrate ESG and provide more guidance on topics of special interest.

In his welcome address at the re-launch of the Code of Conduct, Alba’s CEO Ali Al Baqali stated:

“Our actions, words and behaviours do matter irrespective of where we are. When we act with the highest integrity, we live Alba Values and stand with our communities and external stakeholders to ensure that our business practices respect our environment, embrace diversity and inclusion, value employee contribution and adhere to highest standards for business ethics and professional conduct.

Our aim is that our value-chain, suppliers to customers, should be confident that they can always count on Alba from an ethics, governance and compliance perspective.

I also take the opportunity to thank Alba’s Chairman of the Board Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa for embracing the Code and for steering us to do the right thing and play by the rules.”

Alba’s updated Code of Conduct will be rolled-out through a Company-wide communication plan and cascaded to all staff as well as contractors’ employees while various types of knowledge resources will also be made available to enable knowledge sharing.

Alba was one of the first companies in the Region to launch its own Code of Conduct and confidential reporting system Integrity Line in 2011. The Company, in 2018, also rolled-out an External Environment and Social Grievance Mechanism in line with the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards.
