Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s Spent Pot Lining (SPL) Treatment Plant, the first-of-its-kind in the region, is the result of the co-operative efforts between Alba and Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) in line with Bahrain’s National Waste Management Strategy led by HH Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King of Bahrain and President of the Supreme Council for Environment.
Inaugurated by the Chairman of Alba's Board of Directors Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa on Thursday 09 December 2021, the SPL Treatment Plant enables Alba to transform its treated SPL into valuable product, which can be then used in other industries such as cement, translating the Company’s mission to keep ESG as a top priority all the while doing more good to Bahrain’s community.
This US$37.5 million zero-waste Plant is built over 26,000 square meters in partnership with Australian-based Regain to treat 35,000 tonnes per year of SPL with zero-waste.
With SPL Treatment Plant in operation, Alba is now one step closer to achieve its objective of waste management for sustainable development in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
