PS5 Block 4 Expansion Project
Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world’s largest smelter on one site, held a ceremony to celebrate the successful operations of Block 4 on 18 February 2025 at the Company’s premises, which was attended by senior representatives from Alba, including Chairman of the Board of Directors Khalid Al Rumaihi, CEO Ali Al Baqali and CPO Amin Sultan, in addition to top officials representing key project partners – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), SEPCOIII, and ESBI International.
The Power Station 5 Block 4 – a landmark project that has set a benchmark standard for sustainable and efficient power generation within the aluminium industry – officially entered commercial operations on 22 December 2024.
Translating the Company’s proactive approach to integrating operational efficiency with environmental standards, Block 4 is powered by Mitsubishi Power state-of-the-art, hydrogen-ready M701JAC gas turbine with combined cycle output of 680.9 MW.
The successful commissioning of PS5 Block 4 will not only align Alba with Bahrain's Net Zero Emissions target by 2060 but also strengthen its position as an environmentally responsible smelter.
