Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), well-known as a leading, environmentally-friendly smelter, demonstrated its commitment towards a greener Bahrain by supporting and participating in the Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2015 that is being held from February 25 - March 01, 2015 at the Bahrain International Convention& Exhibition Centre, Bahrain.
Organised under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain and the support of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of the King of Bahrain, President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, BIGS 2015’s theme for this year emphasises the need for continuous agriculture empowerment through education, training and capacity building.
Commenting on Alba’s support for the Bahrain International Garden Show 2015, Alba’s Chief Executive Tim Murray said:
“Alba’s HRH Princess Sabeeka Oasis demonstrates our success as an industrial plant in sustaining a positive and green environment. The Bahrain International Garden Show is one of the most outstanding garden shows in the world and our support for this event is not only to promote a greener Bahrain but also to generate greater awareness towards sustainable development and environment conservation.”
As every year, this year too, Alba has a stand at BIGS 2015, which highlights the Company’s eco-friendly measures and agricultural achievements, and also exhibit the vegetables and fruits grown within the smelter at the Oasis.
Alba’s success in enforcing strict environmental policies can be measured by the evergreen HRH Princess Sabeeka Oasis located on the south side of the plant. The Oasis area extends up to 13 hectares and has over 8,500 trees including many types of fruit trees and an artificial lake, which is one of the largest in Bahrain.
The Oasis has a diverse aquatic life comprising types of fish, turtles and other animals including migratory birds. There is also a small Alba farm in the vicinity, which has horses, deer and goats. The pride of the Oasis is the 2-hectare vegetable garden in which many vegetables and local fruit trees are grown and later distributed to Alba employees on a regular basis.
