Aluminium Bahrain (Alba)'s commitment to Bahrainisation of its workforce, determination to empower Bahraini youth with technical skills, and enhance their chances to be seen as employees of choice in the labour market took a decisive step when the company took measures to recruit 60 vocational trainees in association with Tamkeen.

Tamkeen is a semi-autonomous yet independent authority responsible for formulating strategic and operational plans to enhance the overall prosperity of Bahrain. This it does by investing in Bahraini employability, job creation and social support.
The Vocational Training programme that Alba is offering in association with Tamkeen is a two-year programme designed to give eligible candidates hands-on training in maintenance, power operation and smelter operation and various other aspects of engineering relevant to Alba's operations.
On successful completion of the programme, the candidates will have the choice of opting for a relevant position within Alba. Commenting on Alba's support of the Vocational Training programme initiated in association with Tamkeen, Alba's Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt said:
"Alba will soon celebrate forty-years of its operations in Bahrain, and one of our proudest legacies has been the level of expertise, commitment and dedication demonstrated by our Bahraini workforce in transforming Alba into one of the world's leading aluminium smelters. Our support for the Vocational Training programme reflects our determination to continue this legacy by inspiring the next generation of Bahraini youth to consider the aluminium industry as a viable career option, and to develop the necessary skills to be winners in whatever career they choose."
Only Bahraini nationals - below 25 years - with a minimum national diploma or equivalent qualification in the field of engineering with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and above can qualify for the Vocational Training Programme. Students who already possess a national diploma or equivalent, and will graduate in June 2010 are also eligible to apply.
